The new voice in Amanda’s head, the one that tells her to steal things and talk to strange men in bars, is strange and frightening, and Amanda struggles to wrest back control of her life. At night she dreams of a beautiful woman with pointed teeth on the shore of a blood-red sea. She starts smoking again, and one night for no reason, without even the knowledge that she’s doing it, she burns her husband with a cigarette. Amanda-a successful architect in a happy marriage-finds her life going off kilter by degrees. A memo to her boss that’s replaced by obscene insults. Her loss of willpower, the destruction of her relationships, and the way her life is impacted I really couldn’t get enough of.Ī recurrent, unidentifiable noise in her apartment. What I loved about this book was the descent into madness that the main character goes through. The parts that I enjoyed I really enjoyed but there were other parts of the book that just dragged on, didn’t have enough detail, and I could guess what the ending was going to be before halfway through the book. In my opinion, this book stands on the line between good and mediocrity. This novel has everything one could want in a possession story: blood, psychological horror, sex, and drama. Then it progresses to loss of memory and unable to control her body. At first, she hears weird knocking noises. The story follows a young woman who is slowly driven insane by a demon. I just now got around to reading it after it sat in my to-be-read pile for several years. Come Closer by Sara Grab is a horror novel that was published in 2003.
